Business blogging and disclosure

The bad thing with business blogs is that you cannot reveal all the information available to you. The reason for that is obvious. I cannot expose information considering our operations or our competitors’ intelligence. I cannot reveal my strategic plans and / or policies in order to outperform competition and increase sales, revenues, profits, or lower . . . → Read More: Business blogging and disclosure

G20 deficits

Why such an unprecedented madness to cut deficits? Why so many years no one hadn’t considered it? It seems that Greece’s failure to payout the loans set a new milestone for global economy. It always seemed the right thing to do in my eyes: countries just like individuals shouldn’t (ideally) owe money and similar to a . . . → Read More: G20 deficits

Average Price Index

Average Price Index (API) is a very simple, easy to use yet powerful and very useful business tool. In an enterprise which produces only one product, the API is of course the price of that product. API is thus used when we have more than one product, particularly a range of products (for example one brand’s range of products). It is calculated by dividing the total revenue or value of those products by the number of items sold or produced. For example: 140.000 Euros in LCD TVs / 250 items = 560 (API), that means that the average price of a TV set is 560 Euros.

How is this metric used in businesses?

The state of things in Greece

The following example illustrates in a very simplistic yet accurate way the bad state of the Greek economy:
We have one guy with a little farm. That farm has only one apple tree. The tree produces 2 apples daily. This guy needs 5 apples per day to feed himself. Unable or unwilling to plant more trees to . . . → Read More: The state of things in Greece

Prices and Crisis

The recession in economy has squeezed the prices down. Low-end products are now in great demand. That’s bad news for high-end manufacturers & customers, quality and technology advancement in general. Fortunately, value-for-money oriented manufacturers, who don’t have to be low-end necessarily, can also succeed.

Retail prices have also been vastly decreased causing a lot of competition among . . . → Read More: Prices and Crisis

Retailing

In retailing there surely are (many) more than meets the eye. I think retailing is a great practical “school” and I consider myself quite fortunate to be able to “study” in it. As a consumer (and a brand advocate & loyal customer in many brands) I couldn’t even get close to all that complexity and deals . . . → Read More: Retailing

Business Crises

I decided to post about business crises after the post of Trevor Gay: “Managing in a crisis” on simplicity blog. Crisis in business is a very important field that needs a lot of study although it has gain a lot of attention because of the recent trend of corporate social responsibility.

I generally agree with Trevor’s views . . . → Read More: Business Crises

Viral campaings

Viral campaigns can deliver great results to a brand. Especially on the internet, ideas and advertisements that have specific characteristics and spread virally can create huge impact and deliver great brand awareness and preference.

Eamon at Spotlight Ideas states that viral ads are far more effective than brand utility initiatives (see this post) and uses the example . . . → Read More: Viral campaings

Greek companies are mostly on “sales” mode

Most companies in Greece are still in sales “mode”. They need to evolve into “marketing” mode. It’s even more disappointing the fact that even big multinationals prefer to stay in that mode. Those multinationals have already been altered many years ago in other countries but this outdated situation here in Greece is very” comfortable” for them. . . . → Read More: Greek companies are mostly on “sales” mode

Marketing Yourself

Marketing products or services may be your profession. You have a great impact in the marketing campaigns of your company and your involvement may be high or (even low). But what are the marketing campaigns that market you?

You are a product. You know that, don’t you? Are you doing the proper marketing activities? Do . . . → Read More: Marketing Yourself
